National Nutrition Month 2013!
March is National Nutrition Month! SWMDDA is organizing some great activities to promote nutrition messages and establish RD's as the nutrition expert! March 13 is Registered Dietitian Day and SWMDDA has teamed with Martin's School of Cooking and Lakeshore Middle School in Stevensville, MI to lead a hands-on cooking/nutrition class that afternoon. SWMDDA has also partnered with Lincoln Township and Benton Harbor Public Libraries to lead story times with nutrition based books and activities to a variety of ages!

New CEU events upcoming! March 7 is a FREE for all RD's CEU event in St. Joseph, MI on Eating Disorders. April 17 is our next planned SWMDDA CEU opportunity with two great speakers. Also, Andrews University is planning their annual Nutrition Day for March 27 and WMU interns will be hosting the last SWMDDA meeting of the membership year in May. Stay tuned for more details!

I would like to personally invite you to join our association. I know all of us must carefully consider how we spend our dollars in today’s economy and with so many education opportunities available online, many may question joining our association. SWMDDA recognizes this and strives to provide outstanding value through opportunities to expand your professional network, improve your professional knowledge and skills, increase your awareness of current topics in our profession, and develop leadership skills.
Last year, SWMDDA offered 16.5 Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits to members through live speakers, teleconferences, and hosted many vendors who shared their products. We held events at many different sites within our district from St. Joseph, Kalamazoo, and Battle Creek. Most of our events are held in early evening hours with heavy
refreshments to accommodate work schedules. Our membership grew by74% with the changes made to the association. Where else can you gain this experience for only ~$1.80 per CPE?
The 2012-2013 SWMDDA board of directors is busy this summer planning some wonderful opportunities for the upcoming membership year. We pledge to offer a minimum of 12 CPE credits during this membership year and strive to include topics members have expressed interest. Please watch your email inbox or visit our website for upcoming events, information, and job postings.
If you have been a member in the past, I encourage you to take a new look and consider rejoining. If you are new, we
would love to get to know you! As a special incentive, join before September 1st and receive an early-bird discounted
membership rate of $25. Simply fill out the attached membership application and mail to address on form before September 1st.

Michigan Dietitian Licensure Update, May 2012
VERY IMPORTANT!! Repeal of Michigan Dietitian Licensure Law is being considered by the Governor and State Government. Michigan Registered Dietitian's need to speak up.
